Civil War Union Staff & Field 1850 Sword-Horstmann
This sword is marked on the ricasso "W.H. Horstmann & Sons Philadelphia" and Kirschbaum & Co. Knight's helmet logo. The both sides of blade have deep floral and shield etching and leaf pattern on spine. The blade is 29" and 36.5" overall. The blade shows age and wear with no pitting and some very light dings to blade edge.. The tip is good. Brown leather wrap shows some wear and the wire wrap is tight. The leather and brass scabbard is in solid condition but leather has old cracks and crazing with oil based preservative having been applied. The brass fittings are in good condition with the middle hanger ring able to slide a bit. Scabbard end cap is missing screw. This a very nice period sword.
