Civil War Union Artillery Shell Jacket E
This is an excellent example of the 12 button M1858 artillery shell jacket that may be unissued or lightly worn. The right armpit has double oval ink stamps that reads for Stephenson Inspector from Cincinnati depot and with a date that is hard to read but looks like 1863. Has many brown ink blotches. It the lining is brown and white wool worsted cloth. All the buttons appear to matching with a few period replacements. The buttons are plain thin neck eagle general service pattern. The condition is excellent plus with the red worsted piping bright colors. The 12 button holes show light wear. The blue wool body appears to be in excellent plus condition with no mothing, staining or discoloration. Lining is in equally excellent condition and has interior pocket. This is a classic shell jacket in excellent condition.
