Civil War CSA Kentucky State Militia Kepi Cap
This Kentucky State Militia Kepi is from a long time Civil War collector and is one of the most "Confederate" looking Kepis to collect. There was a small number of KY Militia members with most having CSA leanings. This kepi has is in very good condition for what it is. The chinstrap is made from leather looking oil cloth and is 100% intact with slides and firmly attached to the KSM "United We Stand" buttons. The front has some wear holes that might correspond with an insignia at one time. The visor, exterior, headband and interior show tremendous age and wear yet it is fully intact. We see no maker's marks or tags. There are some darker discolored exterior areas from sitting and certain areas more exposed that others. There appears to be no mothing or moth tracks at all. Please review photos. To many collectors, this is a holy grail cap. Look for the 1866 Carpet Bag in this auction which came from a family from Richmond Kentucky with two family names for solid research possibilities.
