He embarked on a career in arms at an early age at the Ecole Militaire de Brienne. In 1805, he was a captain in the General Staff of the Grande Armée. In 1810 he was attached to the Emperor.
Document signed 'Montholon' twice, Paris, March 10, 1827 and February 24, 1829, 2 pp. in folio. Interesting document relating to the succession of the Emperor Napoleon. Montholon transfers to the banker Pierre Laffitte 195 shares of the company of the new Poissonnière district, in reimbursement of the sums he received from the estate of the late Emperor Napoleon, such are stated in the two acts under private signatures made between Montholon and the Duke of Bassano. In the second part of the document, dated 1829, Montholon recognizes Laffitte's right to exchange the shares for land. Included: Duke of Bassano (Dijon, 01.05.1763 - Paris, 13.05.1839). At the start of the Revolution, he was a journalist. In 1792, he joined the diplomatic service. He became Napoleon's secretary after his return from Egypt. Grand Cross of the Legion of Honour. Document signed and dated Paris, 10.03.1827 :"…pour en jouir à dater du premier avril prochain à Mr le Comte Charles Tristan de Montholon la propriété de vingt actions …" signed Le Duc de Bassano and a second copy signed. - This lot is under temporary import in the UK. 5% VAT is due if delivered in the UK. Delivery and Storage

1. If the item is delivered within the UK, postage is subject to 20% VAT. However, all sales outside the UK are exempt from VAT.

All sales within the UK are subject to import VAT, payable at 5% of the hammer price. A 20% VAT will be added to the buyer’s premium. However, all items shipped outside the UK are exempt from VAT charges.

 

2. Where needed, the Auctioneers will provide complete customs declarations for the Hammer Price and the Purchaser's premium. The Purchaser is responsible for any customs charges imposed by the importing country.

 

3. A shipping proposal that includes insurance will be added to the invoices.

  

4. Items that remain uncollected may be relocated to storage, and their release will only be initiated upon settlement of the corresponding storage expenses. Should the accumulated storage charges reach a threshold of 50% of the initial Hammer Price paid, or if three months pass from the transfer date, the following actions may be taken at our sole discretion. We reserve the right to re-sell any or all the stored lots without prior notification and in the manner we choose. The proceeds obtained from such resale will then be allocated to offset the incurred storage costs. If there is a surplus amount after settling the costs, the Buyer can request the remaining balance. However, it's important to note that the Buyer will remain responsible for covering any shortfall that may arise. This policy ensures the efficient management of stored items and aids in recovering storage-related expenses while upholding transparency and fairness in our proceedings.

 

AUCTION_INFORMATION_PAYMENT

1. Each Purchaser must provide the auctioneers with their name, address, and, if required, proof of identity during a sale. Additionally, the Auctioneers may request the Purchaser to make a specified deposit.

2. The Purchaser is responsible for paying the Hammer Price and a 20% premium (plus 20% VAT on the premium only for UK-delivered items). The minimum premium is £10. By placing a bid, the Purchaser acknowledges their awareness of this requirement and agrees to the Auctioneers receiving the mentioned commission. 

 

3. Payment for lots must be made by banker's draft, debit card, or credit card. We do not accept PayPal payments.

 

4. Overseas clients are requested to settle their accounts through bank transfers (details available upon request) or payment with Debit Cards or Credit Cards. If payment is made using personal accounts in foreign currency, the client should ask us for the correct amount of foreign currency to send. We can accept payments only in GBP, USD, and EUR. The Auctioneer reserves the right to recover any shortfall resulting from bank charges or currency fluctuations from the Purchasers.

 

5. Payments for auction purchases can also be made in Bitcoin. If the buyer would like to take advantage of this option, can inform the Auctioneers, and all the necessary information will be supplied. Please write to autographe@lautographe.auction

 

7. The Auctioneers will not release any lots until they receive full payment from the Purchaser.
